Betrayal Trauma Healing

When you are betrayed by the person who is supposed to love, respect and support you the most, your world shatters. It may feel as though the whole life of your relationship has been a lie.

Betrayal trauma occurs when someone you deeply trust, such as a partner, violates that trust through infidelity, sexual addiction, or deception. This creates a traumatic rupture that impacts your sense of safety, self-worth, and reality, often leading to anxiety, hypervigilance, and deep emotional pain.

Discovering infidelity, sexual betrayal, or hidden behaviors can feel like your entire world has been turned upside down. Betrayal trauma is not just emotional pain, it’s a deep wound to your sense of safety, trust, and identity. It often brings feelings of shock, anger, fear, and confusion. A betrayed partner might find themself asking: “What is real? How do I move forward? Can I ever feel safe again?

At Anchored in Healing, we understand the unique pain of betrayal trauma. In our practice, we hold clients accountable for the ways they manage their emotions. Betrayed partners are never blamed for the acting out behavior of another. A partner’s response to discovery does not mean they are “overreacting”. The brain and body are responding to a profound violation of trust. Betrayal trauma isn’t just a relationship issue; it’s a nervous system crisis. The body is trying to make sense of danger and safety, and when triggered a person is typically thrown into a survival response of fight, flight, freeze, or fawn.

The good news: healing is possible, and you do not have to do it alone.
